Trends for 2020

Whether you have already chosen your dream ring, or if you and your partner are just starting to look for that one perfect ring, we have here gathered some of out favorite trends of engagement and wedding rings for the new decennium. And no, you don’t even have to be on your way to the altar to look at beautiful rings, we too love to dream!

Minimalist designs and colorful stones are gaining popularity according to experts, while unconventional rings are becoming more common (have you seen the ring Orlando Bloom gave Katy Perry? It’s a diamond ring shaped like a big flower!). At the same time, the classic aesthetics of the pure rings with a solitude, sparkling diamond is still one of the favorites. We promise that you will find something that suits you and your style in our big guide to 2020’s trends.

Like the rest of society, the jewelry market also sees a shift towards transparency and sustainability in our lives. Modern consumers are now making sure to align their personal values with brands that can prove that their gemstones are cruelty free is becoming an increasingly important trend. We at Mumbaistockholm can proudly say that all our diamonds are conflict free and certified according to the Kimberley Process (KP). We also strive to be a minimum waste company, in other words we only make rings according to orders – we do not over-produce rings, every ring is manufactured to be worn by one person.

Colors and unique rings

We have seen an increase in the use of various gemstones in engagement rings over the years as an alternative to diamonds. The experts agree that 2020 will continue about breaking old traditions with emeralds, black diamonds and non-traditional shapes such as open rings. Sapphires and emeralds are real classics, but now pastel colored gemstones are here to stay. Or do you want to be a bridal badass? Accent lighter gemstones with black diamonds for a smoother and more rebellious vibe.
Morganites If you want a pink diamond but don’t have a hefty budget, morganite is a good option. Its pink beryl (the same mineral as emeralds and aquamarines!) and comes in a variety of pastel shades.

More is more – Multiple gemstones

Three and five stone rings have become popular choices for engagement rings, just look at Meghan Markle’s beautiful engagement ring with a large and two smaller diamonds. The three stones are said to represent the past, the present and the future and with the use of different shapes and colors of the gemstones you can get really creative! If you are thinking of a colorful center stone, it doesn’t have to be a diamond – there are many other great options out there. Sapphires have been a favorite of the royal families around the world for years. While sapphires come in many colors, they in particular symbolize faithfulness and happiness. And they are almost as hard (read: durable) as diamonds!

Solitaire – A diamond at the center of attention

The ring with a big R for many brides-to-be is the classic ring with a single diamond. Diamond Solitaire has long been a favorite when it comes to engagement rings and while other trends are coming and going diamond solitaires for sure are here to stay. Subtle, discreet but so beautiful, this setting is one of the best ways to show off a beautiful gemstone. It’s impossible to go wrong with a solitaire ring, they will forever have a timeless, chic feel which makes them the perfect ring for classic brides-to-be. With that said, a designer can transform a classic solitaire ring into a more modern feel by swapping the band into a thinner one, giving a minimalist vibe.

If you are looking for something bolder, a colored diamond or gemstone is a great way to express your personal style and creativity – why not a big light blue aquamarine or light pink morganite?

Minimalist engagement rings & unique wedding bands

In fact, we don’t think that the trend of minimalist rings ever disappeared, because less is more has always been a beautiful and popular style. Solitaire gives a discreet but classic and timeless look.

Looking for a unique wedding band? Even when a bride wants the classic diamonds, they can still look for something unique in the setting. Customers love the idea of going more untraditional with a band that stands out in the crowd and feels more special to them. They are also perfect to stack!

Stack – Stackable engagement rings

Surely an engagement ring feels like the perfect start to the ultimate ring stack? Stacking rings is not a new concept, and more and more brides-to-be are choosing to integrate this trend for a wedding. Being able to wear their engagement, wedding and eternity ring together in a beautiful ring stack is both trendy and eye-catching. Instead of choosing a wedding ring that matches their engagement ring, brides now blend rose, yellow and white gold in multiple bands to create a personalized look.

Why are we so obsessed with the stacking trend? Because ifs fully customizable! Put on as many bands as you want, let them represent different milestones – there are no rules. Let two rings together form a larger ring or wear them alone to show off their unique design.

Yellow, white or rose gold?

Although platinum and white gold have topped the list of popularity in engagement rings in recent years, yellow gold is now making a big comeback. And it’s not hard to understand why, the glossy yellow color matches beautifully with both diamonds and colorful gemstones and complements almost all types of environments – the color is both classic, vintage and modern. They also match nicely with the traditional engagement rings in yellow gold.

Brides-to-be are increasingly looking at alternative metals for yellow and white gold. No matter what design you choose on your gemstones, rose gold is a romantic version of a classic engagement ring. More daring than white gold or platinum, there is a reason rose gold is making a huge comeback – the feminine pink colors flatters all skin tones.

Some final thoughts…

Although there are many different shapes and colors available today that make rings fun and unique, the choice is of course completely yours and you don’t have to choose anything just because it is the latest trend. Be true to your heart and choose a style you love; your ring should be a celebration both of your personality and style! Go for what you love, although it may not look traditional. If it’s one thing we have learned from the ring trends of 2020, it’s that there are more choices than ever, so you can make sure to find a ring that is perfect just for you.
