Pushpresent is something I didn't know existed before I started my jewelery brand Mumbaistockholm. Thanks to our customers, I now know that it is a magical gift to receive, and something that many expectant and new mothers actually long for!
Sometimes you get a gift from your partner in the hospital right after the birth, but it could just as well be that you choose your push gift yourself, when you get home and land in your new family situation. In this article, I am going through the top 4 push gifts that Mumbai girls usually opt for!

What is a push present?
Perhaps the most common reason why customers come to us is to mark major events in their lives. It can be about graduating, getting a promotion, quitting your job and starting your own business, getting engaged and getting married, or to celebrate getting through another major turning point in life. It's like events become more concrete when you let a piece of jewelry represent them!Someone wrote that push marriage is an American trend that has now reached Sweden, but I wonder if it is really that simple. I think people have always wanted to mark big events in life with a piece of jewelry, and this is simply one of them!
And I can say this - few customer meetings are as charming as when a nervous first-time father appears on the steps of our showroom and says he wants to surprise his girl with a piece of jewelry as a push gift when she gives birth in X number of weeks. It's love so into the bench!
Few customer meetings are as charming as when a nervous first-time father appears on the steps of our showroom and says he wants to surprise his girl with a piece of jewelry as a push gift when she gives birth in X number of weeks.
But the fact is that it is almost as common for a mother to contact us after a birth (sometimes several years afterwards), because she wants to buy a piece of jewelery to symbolize the child.
It is in these moments that we are reminded why we love our job!
The idea our customers have with this particular jewelry is also often that the child will inherit "his" push gift, which makes it even more special and personal and adds an extra dimension.
Our 4 most popular push gifts
I now wanted to share the most common push gifts that our customers give away or buy for themselves in connection with a birth.
We have four clear favorites among push gifts!
Look at the ring finger of someone with a large family - it's not unusual to have a whole pile of rings on there! Calling Mumbaistockholm
Most choose one of the following:
A ring to add to your engagement stack or wedding stack
Look at the ring finger of someone with a large family - it's not unusual to have a whole pile of rings on there! It is not infrequent that a push married person chooses to add a ring between their engagement and wedding rings. You simply want the whole family gathered on the same finger! Perhaps the timing of the baby's birth also coincides with the fact that you have just (but only a little) started to get used to (not tired of!) your wedding stack and want to spice it up a bit. Then this option fits perfectly!
Those of our customers who have more children, usually continue the tradition and add another ring for each child to the same ring stack.
Wondering how many rings you can wear on the same finger?
Our Personal Jewelry Shopper Halina wears 8 rings on her ring finger, and she still has some wiggle room left on her knuckle, so until you're there - keep going!
A ring to wear on one's own finger
The other option, which is very common, is of course to start over on a completely new finger, and let it symbolize the children!
Many (like myself) are also not married, and then there is actually free play on all ten fingers of the hands.
Whether you choose option 1 (add to the wedding stack) or 2 (start over on a new finger), those stuck with rings as push gifts tend to keep that tradition with any additional additions, so you end up with a ring for every child!
The idea is then that each child will inherit "his" ring afterwards - nice, right?

A little further down in the article there are tips on what to consider when choosing a gemstone, if you don't want a diamond!
A diamond necklace
Before we started selling diamond necklaces on the website, this was one of the most common requests we received in the mail! There are many of us who long to wear a beautiful diamond around our neck, and it seems that many are ready to invest in one just after having a child.
You basically never have to take off a diamond necklace; it can hang around your neck when you sleep and shower, work and tinker - and it is the piece of jewelery that is closest to the heart.
Perhaps it is not so strange that a diamond necklace has become perhaps the most classic push gift?

Diamond earrings
You can't mention popular push gifts without also mentioning the diamond earrings.
They are often even more exclusive than the diamond necklace, because you often want to buy a pair of earrings, which means you need to invest in two diamonds.
Many women who have pierced ears already wear small diamonds in their ears, so if you are going to add new diamonds to symbolize the children, you want them to be bigger than the first pair. This means that the diamond earrings come in a bit like a bubble on the list - many people end up choosing a ring or necklace instead just as a push gift, because it becomes too big an investment with two big diamonds in the ears for a child (what if you get more children, how do you top it?) - but it is still a classic piece of jewelry that is suitable for passing down an inheritance, and it is a piece of jewelry that many consider as a push gift.

What is right for you?
Think about what is most important to you. Is it to always be able to see the jewelry yourself, without going to a mirror? Then maybe rings are your best choice.
Are you practical and want to wake up adorned in the morning and then have your hands free for the rest of the day? Then necklaces or a pair of comfortable earrings are just right for you!
A big advantage of rings in particular, which our customers love, is that they can be engraved.
I think that the possibility of engraving means that many people actually choose just one ring as a push gift. The child's name and date of birth are often engraved in the ring. On the other hand, a diamond necklace will always hang around your neck, while rings may not be worn when you're scraping around the house and on maternity leave.
Which gemstone are you going to choose?
The most classic is, of course, diamonds - many people do not own so many diamonds before, and it is always very special with just one piece of diamond jewelry. Diamonds come naturally in several lovely, earthy tones that I and our customers love - white, champagne, chocolate and dark chocolate. You will be able to combine them with all your future jewellery!
The other two gemstones that are almost as classic as diamond, and are also durable enough to be worn every day year after year, are sapphire and ruby. Sapphire comes in a multitude of colors - and when it's red, it's called a ruby.
It is popular to find out your child's birthstone and choose it in your jewelry - but keep in mind that many of them are not durable enough to be worn in everyday jewelry. And if you want the jewelery to be passed down to your children, the durability of the gemstone should be a high priority.
Here you can read more about which gemstones are durable enough to be worn every day!
The beauty is that diamond, sapphire and ruby together are found in all the colors of the rainbow, and also in different shades (from light blue to dark blue, from olive green to more intense green) - so if you choose any of these three stones, you will be able to find exactly the color that you think symbolizes your child.
Think about - checklist
Here is a small checklist to think about, for those of you who are looking for a push gift.
- The size of fingers often changes during pregnancy and birth, so if you buy a ring before the baby is born - make sure it can be resized
- Do you want jewelry that you can easily take off and on, and that you can always look down on without having to use a mirror? Then rings are for you!
- Do you want jewelry you can sleep with and never have to take off, even in the shower? Opt for a diamond necklace or diamond earrings.
- Want to keep your hands free? The necklace will always hang around the neck, but maybe you don't wear rings when you're scraping around the house and on maternity leave.
- Do you want to engrave your jewelry? Then a ring is the obvious choice for you!
Good luck with your push gift!
Remember: for us who sell jewelry, this is one of the most natural opportunities to invest in a fine piece of jewelry - just when the family has grown.
Marking the birth of your child, which is one of the greatest moments in life, with a beautiful gemstone piece of jewelery is so obvious to us!
We've never marketed ourselves as a brand that specializes in push gifts (is there even such a thing?) and in fact, we've hardly ever even used the word push gift on our social channels - but despite that, there are so many women and men who find us just when they have an increase, or while they are waiting!
